In 1895 two apprentices to the Bristol based electrical
contractors Drake and Gorham decided to start their own business. Upon
completion of their training, Harry Buchanan opened an office in Bristol
and Charles Curwen moved to London to open the Head office in Victoria
Street.
Later in 1907 a branch was opened in Leatherhead, principally to install
generators in country houses. An electrical showroom soon followed.
As electric light became more popular, through an assisted wiring scheme
full retail branches were opened in Beckenham, Dorking and Horsley.
The retail outlets ceased trading in the late 1960's and 1970's following
the advent of discount superstores.
Today we serve the requirements of all domestic, commercial and industrial
clients with a staff of 65 from our purpose built office in Leatherhead.
Our name has become synonymous with high standards and reliability for
over 100 years. These same qualities are now complimented by the range
of services offered by our new company Buchanan & Curwen Security
who offer a complete design and installation service for all security
systems.
NACOSS approval extends to intruder alarms, access systems and CCTV. Clients
also benefit from a company quality assured to BS EN ISO 9002.
